Science Flashcards
Explain how cloning works in 5 steps
Remove the egg from the ovary cell
Remove nucleus from egg cell
Insert nucleus into egg cell
Give a small electric shock
Insert embyro into female.
What is the independant variable
The variable that you change in an experiement
What is the dependant variable
The variable that you measure in an experiement
What is the control variable
The variable that you keep the same in an experiment
How do you fine the average rate of reaction?
Gas produced (cm3) divided by seconds
What is the collision theory
For particles to react they have to collide with each other with sufficient energy
What is the activation energy
The minimum energy that colliding particles must have to react.
Explain why increasing the temperature increases rate of reaction
It gives the molecules more energy so they collide more frequently causing it to react faster.
What can be used to warm up a conical flask
A water bath
What is the name of the glass where you put an experiemnt.
Conical flask
What is the name of the glass where you measure a liquid
Measuring cylinder
Does a catalyst produce more gas in a reaction?
No it produces the same amount of gas but thr reaction stops faster.
Explain why the rate of reaction imcreases when temperature increases
The particles have more energy so they move faster resulting in more frequent collisions and have a higher percentage of collisions.
What is an error that could happen during an experiemnt to cause an anomaly
Clock started too late
The amount of acid in the solution is too concentrsted
What are three parts of cells that plant cells have and animal cells dont have
A vacuole, cell wall, chloroplasts.
What chloroplasts do in a plant cell
This is the sight of photosynthesis where sunlight is absorbed and turned into glucose.
Does having a higher concentration increase or decrease rate if reaction?
It increases Rate of Reaction
Which of these doesn’t increase a chemical reaction?
A. Increasing particle size
B. Increasing the temperature
C.increasing the concentratiom
D. Adding a catalyst
A. Increasing the particle size.
Does increasing the particle size increase a chemical reaction
No it doesn’t
How do you find the MEAN rate of reaction on a graph
Volume of gas produced (y) divided by the time (x)
Why does increasing the surface area increase the rate of reaction.
Because there are more particles for the acid to react with in the same amount of volume so there are more frequent collisons.
Describe one problem that inbreeding causes
It reduces gene pool.
