science Flashcards
1- What are producers?
Producers are self-feeding organisms that make their own food from inorganic matter (not usually found in living things).
2- Do all producers rely on sunlight energy to make their own food?
Some producers rely on the sunlight energy to make their own food by a process called photosynthesis. Other producers, such as some types of bacteria, use certain chemicals to create their own food by a process called chemosynthesis.
3- Give examples of producers.
Producers include plants, green bacteria, bacteria found in hydrothermal vents, algae and phytoplankton (microscopic marine algae).
4- Describe the process of Photosynthesis.
During Photosynthesis, the producer uses sunlight energy to make its own food which is glucose (sugar) and oxygen from water and nutrients from the soil and carbon dioxide from air.
5- Complete the nominal equation of photosynthesis.
A+B sunlight energy C+D
A: Water
B: Carbon dioxide
C: Sugar
D: Oxygen
