science Flashcards
heterogene
dont form uniformly (remain seperate)
homogene
form uniformly (water/salt)
Solute
is the product that the solvent dissolves
Solvent
is the product that dissolves (water, most liquid, etc.)
does heat make dissolution go faster?
yes
whats a substance pure
made up of one type of atom
whats a substance melangee
mixed with 2 or more molecules
example of a heterogene
trail mix, hot chocolate, sand in water, toothpaste, mixed nuts, house paint, pizza, butter, shaving cream, and mayonnaise.
example of a homogene
Air.
Sugar water.
Rainwater.
Vinegar.
Dishwashing detergent.
Steel.
Cup of Coffee.
Mouthwash.
identify 4 ways to seperate mixtures
sublimation, evaporation, condensation
how is a suspension different from a colloide
A suspension is a heterogeneous mixture of a finely distributed solid in a liquid, but A mixture in which very small particles of one substance are distributed evenly throughout another substance (a colloide has smaller solid particules but bigger than a solution)
whats the difference of soluble and insoluble
Soluble fiber dissolves in water, and includes plant pectin and gums. Insoluble fiber doesn’t dissolve in water
whats a saturated solution
A saturated solution is a solution that has dissolved as much solute as it is capable of dissolving
whats a insaturated solution
a solution that contains less than the maximum amount of solute that is capable of being dissolved
in what direction does a fluide exert pressure
all directions
