Nervous and Endocrine System
what are the 2 main functions of the nervous system?
To Relay and gather info
what parts of your body make up the Central Nervous system (CN)
Spinal cord
brain
what parts of your body make up he Peripheral Nervous System>
Nerves
what is an impulse
Impulses are messages that are carried around the body through neurons.
what is a neuron
A neuron is a special cell that carries impulses through the body.
what do the dentries do in a neuron
receives info from other cells
what does the cell body do
protect the nucleus
what does the axon do
info that is transmitted to other cells
what does the cerebrum do
senses, movement, thought, and memory
what does the cerebellum do
Coordinates muscle movements and helps maintain balance
what does the medulla do
breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, and connects to spine
what is a gland
A gland is a group of cells that make special chemicals for your body.
what are hormones
act as messengers to the other parts of the body.
what is the function of the endocrine system?
to control body processes using endocrine glands.
adrenal
helps with stress and anger – fight or flight
pituitary
skeletal growth
thyroid
energy usage
thymus
helps fight infection - immune system
parathyroid
controls calcium levels in blood
