Science Flashcards
what is a physical property?
Physical properties are things you can measure or see in a substance without changing what it is.
What are the 2 types of physical properties?
Qualitative and quantitative
Qualitative of a physical property
Characteristics that can be described but not measured
(ex. Colour, smell, texture,)
Quantitative of a physical property
Characteristics that can be measured
(ex. Density, hardness, melting point)
What is a chemical property
Describing how a substance can react with another to make something new
(Ex. Toxicity, flammability, reactivity)
What is physical change?
When objects or substances don’t change
What is Chemical change
When atoms are combined to form a new molecule
Signs of chemical change
Change of colour (doesn’t look like the original at all)
Bubbling ( gas produced )
Energy released its warm or consumed its cold
Precipitate (when a liquid turns into a solid)
