Science Flashcards
Heat Energy can be called?
Thermal Energy
What is conduction?
Conduction is a method of heat transfer in Solids, but not Liquids or Gases
What are the three types of heat transferred processes in order?
- Conduction
- Convection
- Radiation
What material is one of the best conductors and why?
Metal because there are free electrons moving around and, they move and collide with the particles which then gain heat and virbate and pass around the heat to next particles.
What is an insulator?
A substanceor object which does not allow the passage of heat or sound.
What is a conductor?
A conductor is a object or substance that allows heat and electricity to pass through.
What happen after hot water cools?
cool water sinks
What happen after cool water sinks?
cool water warms
What happens after cool water warms?
Hot water rises
What happens when a metal is heated?
The free electrons gain kinetic energy which allows them to pass heat to the particles.
What is insulation?
Insulation means creating a barrier between the hot objects and the cold object that reduces heat transfer by either reflecting thermal radiation or decreasing thermal conduction and convection from one object to the other.
