Science Flashcards
A push or pull on one object by another object touching it
Contact force
A measure of the change in velocity during a period of time
Acceleration
The acceleration of the object is equal to the net force exerted on an object, then divided by the objects mass
Newtons 2nd law
For every action, there is an equal, and opposite, reaction
Newtons 3rd law
The force 2 objects apply to each other
Force pair
The force that pushes perpendicular to the objects surface
Normal force
When colliding objects bounce off each other
Elastic collision
The combination of all forces acting on an object
Net force
The starting point you choose to describe location, or position, of an object
Reference point
An objects distance or direction from a reference point
Position
The process of changing position
Motion
The difference between the initial, or starting, position and the final position
Displacement
The speed and direction of a moving object
Velocity
A quantity that has both direction and magnitude
Vector
A force that one object applies to another object, without touching it.
Non contact force
