Science Flashcards
A substance made from 2 or more pure substances that have been stirred together
Mixture
When things mix really well that they dissolve
Solution
A substance that dissloves
Soluble
A substance that doesn’t dissolve
insoluble
The substance that dissolves when you make a solution
Solute
The substance that dissolves the other substance in a solution
Solvent
A solution that has less water as it’s solvent
Aqueous solution
The ecosphere of the earth
Biosphere
The gravitational pull out in space
Atmosphere
The earths crust and structure
Lithosphere
Water on the surface and in the air of the earth
Hydrosphere
Ectothermic
Cold-blooded animals
Endothermic
Warm-blooded animals
Small vertabrates that need water
Amphibians
Cold-blooded animals with dry skin covered in scales
Reptiles
Feathered animals that can usally fly
Birds
Warm-blooded animals, vertabrates with hair
Mammals
Live in the water and have gills
Fish
A mammal that gives live birth that goes on to live in a pouch
Marsupial
A mammal that gives live birth and cares after it’s young until it’s old enough to take care of itself
Placental
A mammal that lays eggs rather than giving birth to live young
Monotreme
Particles are strongly bonded together and vibrate
Solid
Particles move more freely but are still held together
Liquid
Particals fly around freely with no connection
Gas
Density
Density is how compact or concentrated something is
Magnetic seperation
When one substance is magnetic and the other isn’t, so you can use a magnet to seperate them
Gravity seperation
When one substance has a gravitational pull and the other doesn’t so one stays put while the othere will be affected by gravity
Sieving
When you put to substances through a sieve and one is small enough to go through the holes and the other isn’t
Filtration
When two substances pass through a filter seperating a liquid from a solid
