Science Flashcards
Science
knowledge about the natural world that is based on facts learned through experiments and observation.
Experiment
a fair test driven by a hypothesis where only one variable is compared.
Data
facts, figures and evidence that a scientist gathers through the evidence gathered and your own knowledge.
Observation
using your senses to gather information.
Prediction
making a forecast (like a weather man) of what will happen.
Testable Question
a question that can be answered
Qualitative Data
observations that do not deal with numbers but include the senses.
Quantitative Data
observations that include numbers.
Hypothesis
an IF/THEN statement used to explain what will happen in a experiment.
Independent Variable
the variable that is changed in the experiment
Dependent Variable
the variable that is an answer to a scientific question it is often measured at the end of the experiment
Constant
a factor that never changes during an experiment.
Conclusion
a summary statement based on the results of an experiment
