what are the three body planes?
sagittal/lateral or down the middle or left and right
coronal/frontal or the front of the body
axial/transveres or bottom and top halfs
what is the different between medial and lateral?
medial means nearer to the midline. and lateral mean further from the midline at the sides
what does proximal mean and what term of anatomic direction is the opposite?
proximal refers to structures closer to the center of the body.distal refers to structures futher away from the center of the body.
what do the terms anterior, posterior, superior, and inferior mean, respectively?
anterior refers to structures in front
posterior refers to structures behind
superior means above, or closer to the head
inferior means below, or closer to the feet
what are the abdominal quadrants?
RUQ: right upper
RLQ: right lower
LUQ: left upper
LUQ: left lower
what structures comprise the respiratory system and what is its primary function?
the nose, mouth, nasal cavity, sinuses, pharynx, larnx, trachea, bronchial tree, and lungs. these organs facilliate the delivery of oxygen to the lungs. these organs faciliate the delivery of oxygen to the cells of the body for use in cellular respiration and help remove waste in the form of carbon dioxide.
