SCIENCE Flashcards
A type of neuron that is also called connector or association; acts as a bridge between sensory neurons
Interneurons
A subdivision of the PNS that is responsible for the voluntary movements of the body
Somatic Nervous System
A type of neuron that is responsible for transmitting signals from the brain and spinal cord; Efferent Neurons.
Motor Neurons
main part of a neuron; contains the nucleus, various organelles that are necessary for neuron to carry out its function.
Cell Body or Soma
a long, thin, tubular bundle of nerves that runs from the brain stem to the lower back
Spinal Cord
long, slender projection that extends from the soma and transmits signals away from the neuron.
Axon
branched extensions from the cell body; receives signal from other neurons.
Dendrites
main part of a neuron; contains the nucleus, various organelles that are necessary for neuron to carry out its function.
Soma
A type of neuron that transmits information to the brain and spinal cord (Nervous System); Afferent Neurons
Sensory Neurons
responsible for involuntary actions
Medulla Oblongata
monitors internal conditions
Hypothalamus
Two subdivisions of PNS
Somatic Nervous System
and Autonomic Nervous System
responsible for visual and auditory reflexes
Midbrain
Three types of Neurons
- Sensory Neurons
- Interneurons
- Motor Neurons
doesn’t involve the brain
Spinal Reflex
link between the CNS to the rest of the body
Peripheral Nervous System
