Science Flashcards
energy in action
Energy that is bringing about change/kinetic energy
stored energy
energy that is available to make things happen but is not being used at the moment. potential energy
chemical energy
The chemicals that make up a material determine how much chemical energy it stores. food, batteries, gasoline, etc.
elastic energy
The energy compressed or stored in stretchy objects such as rubber bands, springs and vacuums.
electrical energy
the energy that electricity provides. has to do with movement of electrons
gravitational energy
the enrgy stored in objects that are in position to fall, such as water at the top of waterfall
Heat energy
The energy a substance has as a result of it’s temperature. the molecular movement and atomic movement
Light energy
The energy carried by light rays/waves
motion energy/ mechanical energy
the energy present in moving things, such as wind, racing car, or a scoring ball
sound energy
the energy carries by sound waves
solar energy
energy transferred from the sun. light and heat energy provided by the sun
energy transfer
when energy moves from one object or place to another one changes from one form to another. one energy type to another
conductor
a material that heat energy can transfer through
insulator
a material that slows heat energy transfer.
a good insuator is poor conductor
machine
a device that helps people harness energy transfers to perform a particular task. makes it easier to control energy
