Science Flashcards
What is a suspension?
Particles that are temporarily suspended
What is a solute?
A solid which dissolves in a solvent
What is a solvent?
The substance that makes a solute dissolve. Example: In a sugar-water solution, sugar is the solute and water is the solvent.
What is a solution?
A mixture of two or more substances that stays evenly mixed - transparent
What is dilute?
to make thinner or weaker by adding a liquid.
What is concentrated?
concentration is how much of a substance is mixed with another substance.
What is saturated
When the amount of solute in a solvent is so high that not all of it will dissolve
What is unsaturated?
The solvent is capable of dissolving more of the solute (The opposite of saturated)
What is a colloid?
They stay suspended
What is Homogenous?
When you look at a mixture you can’t see the particles because it’s been dissolved so much that it’s too small to see
What is Heterogenous?
When you look at a mixture you can see the particles
What is a Compound?
2 or more atoms, they are chemically bound together (can’t separate them)
What is solubility?
Whether the substance dissolves in another
