Science Flashcards
What are the parts of a animal cell
1) cell membrane
2) cytoplasm
3) nucleus
4) mitochondrion
What are the different parts of a plant cell
1) chloroplast
2) cell wall
3) nucleus
4) cell membrane
5) mitochondrion
6) vacuole
7) cytoplasm
What are nerve cells
Nerve cells are long and thin and have connections at each end this allows them to transmit messages around the body
What is a red blood cell
A red blood cell transports oxygen around the body.
The have no nucleus which allowed them to have more oxygen inside them they also have a disk like shape
What is a root hair cell
A root hair cell absorbs water and nutrients from soil. They do not carry out photosynthesis
What is diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of particles form a high concentration to a low concentration
What is a unicellular organism
A unicellular organism is a organism that is made up of only one cell
What is a example of a unicellular organism
Amoeba and Euglena
What are the different organs
1) Brain-Controls the body
2) Heart-pumps blood
3) Lungs-takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide
4) stomach-Digests food
5) bladder-stores urine
6) intestine- absorbes nutrients from food
7) kidney-filters the blood and produces the urine
8) liver-removes toxins and produces bile to help digestion
The different organ systems
Respiratory system- takes in oxygen and removes carbon dioxide
Circulatory system- transports materials around the body in the blood
Reproductive system- produces new organisms
How does the respiratory system work
Air enters your body through your mouth and nose
Air moves down the trachea (a large tube)
Air moves down the bronchus (a smaller tube)
Air moves through the bronchioles (a tiny tube)
Air moves into an alveolus (an air sack)
Oxygen then diffuses into the blood
What happens when you inhale
Muscles between the ribs contract-this pulls your rib cage up and out
The Diaphragm contracts- it moves down
The volume inside your chest increases
Pressure inside your chest decreases- this draws air into your lungs
What happens when you exhale
Muscles between your ribs relax- this pose you’re a cage down in
The Diaphragm relaxes- it moves up
The volume inside your chest decreases
Go inside your chest increases- this pushes air out of
your lungs
Different parts of the skeleton
1) skull
2) jawbone
3) collarbone
4) Sternum
5) Humerus
6) ulna
7) radius
8) vertebral column (backbone)
9) pelvis
10) femur
11) kneecap
12) fibula
13) tibia
14) ancle
What age does puberty take place
Puberty takes place between the ages 9 and 14
