Science 1 - Waves Flashcards
Medium -
Is any substance that wave moves through .
Mechanical waves
All of the waves you have read about so far ,even sound waves, mechanical waves.
Transverse wave-
The direction in witch the waves travel in perpendicular or at right angles to wise
Longitudinal wave
The wave travels in the Same direction as the disturbance
Wave
Is a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another.
Crest -
Is the highest point ,or peak of a wave
Trough -
Is the lowest point or valley of wave
Amplitude -
For a transverse wave is the destance between a line through the middle of a wave crest or the trough
Wavelength
Wavelength can also be measured from the trough to trough
Frequently
The word frequent means often so frequent measures how often a wave occurs
Reflection
Remember what you have learned about forces
Diffraction
Is the spreading out through the waves out the waves through and open the waves
Interference
Is the combining of waves
Radio wave
Are EM waves that have that have longest wave length the lowest frequance and the lowest energies
Micro wave
Are EM waves with shorter wave lengths higher than other radio waves
Visible light
Is the part of EM spectrum that human eyes can see
Ultraviolet light
Part of an em spectrum consist of frequnes above those visible light and partially bellow those x-Ray
X-Rays
Have frequency from both about about 10hz
Gamma rays
Have frequance from about 10 hz hz is more than 1024hz
Trancesion
is the passage em wave through a medium
Absorption
The disappearance of an em wave into the medium
Scattering
Is the spreading out of light rays in all direction in all direction because particles reflect and absorb the light
Polarization
Is a quality of light in witch all waves viberate in the same direction
Prism
Is a tool usese refraction to spread out spread out different wavelengths to make a white light
