Science 1/27 Flashcards
state of the atmosphere at a given time and place with respect to wind, temperature, cloudiness, moisture, and pressure; daily or hourly conditions
Weather
scientist who studies weather
Meteorologist
form of water that falls from the cloud to the Earth
rain, snow, ice, sleet, hail
Precipitation
weather over a long period of time
Climate
the amount of water vapor in the air

lowest clouds and look like layers. Usually see them in overcast skies and they may bring precipitation
Stratus clouds
high, wispy, feathery clouds. Formed with ice crystals
Cirrus clouds
is the transfer of heat by the actual movement of the warmed matter. (THROUGH TOUCH)
Convection
is the transfer of energy through matter from particle to particle. (THROUGH AIR OR WATER)
Conduction
Electromagnetic waves that directly transport ENERGY through space (THROUGH WAVES)
Radiation
degrees warm or cold; influenced by cloud cover
Temperature
A layer of gases surrounding a planet
Atmosphere
layer of the atmosphere ~0-11 miles up; we live here; almost all of weather occurs here
Troposphere
