- St. Vincent de Paul, after escaping Africa, served a church in rural France, recognizing the poverty of the community.
- He used his connections with the wealthy to seek financial assistance, inspiring affluent friends to organize for necessities.
- His successful efforts led other parishes to emulate his methods, leading to widespread use of his techniques in France.
- Vincent later founded the Vincentians, a priest order dedicated to the spiritual and material needs of the poor.
- He also founded the Sisters of Charity and expanded his work to include hospitals, orphanages, and homes for the mentally ill.
- He served prisoners and slaves, sharing his story of hope.
- He died in 1660 and was made a saint in 1737.

- Originally named Gonxha Agnes Bojaxhiu, she joined the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ireland at 18.
