What two key components of DI does Schmidt (2010) mention

A
  1. Ideas (substantive dimension) = types of ideas and how they are justified
  2. Discourses (interactive dimension) = coordinative discourse (how do actors construct ideas) and communicative discourse (how are ideas presented for legitimacy)

Q

What other 3 aspects of institutionalism does Schmid (2010) talk about, and why do we need a 4th?

A

Rational = incentive structures, rational choices

Historical = Path dependent

Sociological = social norm and culture frames

Within these 3, change is seen as externally driven. They explain continuity rather than change.
