What are positive symptoms of schizophrenia?

A

The symptoms that have been added to a patients personality because they now have schizophrenia
These symptoms were not present when the patient was healthy,

This includes: hallucinations, delusions and disorganised speech

What are negative symptoms of schizophrenia

A

The reduction or loss of normal functioning.
The person will have a weekend ability to cope and manage everyday life
The person loses the ability to do certain things because of their illness

This includes : speech poverty, avolition, apathy

What are auditory hallucinations?

A

When the patient hears voices that do not exist, yet feel very real.
The voices are usually loud and can be heard in one or both ears
The voices usually give a inning commentary on what the patient is doing, and mostly the voices say negative comments

A

When the patient believes that they are someone important/ powerful e,g, God
This is a problem because they may believe that they have special powers which could harm them (e.g. they believe that they can fly)

A

When the patient believes that everyone is conspiring against them and that everyone dislikes them
They have a very negative attitude towards people because of this

When the patient believes that objects, events and even songs have a personal significance that refers directly to them
The patient might become emotionally attached to objects (e.g. a vase) and might name the object and talk to it
