Psychosis
loss of contact with reality
Symptoms of Schizophrenia Spectrum
Delusions, Hallucinations, Disorganized thinking, Disorganized/Abnormal Motor Behavior, Catatonic Behavior, Negative symptoms
Delusions
despite evidence contradicting one’s thoughts, the person can’t distinguish their thoughts from reality
Hallucinations
Can occur in any of the 5 senses, the person can recognize that they are not real
Catatonic Behavior
Decreased or lack of reactivity to environment
Negative symptoms
Inability/decreased ability to initiate actions, speech, express emotion or feel pleasure
Schizophrenia
At least 2 symptoms for 1 month, 6 months for diagnosis. Causes hard normal daily functioning.
Schizophreniform Disorder
intermediate btwn schizophrenia and brief psychotic disorder, symptoms from 1-6 months
Schizoaffective Disorder
psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia plus a concurrent uninterrupted period of a major mood episode, either depressive or manic.
Delusional Disorder
presence of at least 1 delusion that lasts at least 1 month
Comorbidity of Schizophrenia
Substance abuse disorders, Anixety-related disorders, and some medical conditions
Somatic Symptom Disorder
presence of many somatic symptoms, whether localized or diffused and specific or nonspecific, at one time which impacts daily functioning.
Illness Anxiety Disorder (Hypochondriasis)
concern over having or acquiring a serious illness, without the presence of somatic symptoms. Individuals spend a lot of time looking for “clues” in their body.
Conversion Disorder
one or more symptoms of voluntary motor (paralysis/limping) or sensory (skin sensations/ vision or hearing impairment) function, which are either functional (abnormal CNS functioning) or psychogenic.
Factitious Disorder (Munchhausen syndrome/Munchhausen by Proxy)
Deliberate falsification of medical or psychological symptoms of oneself or another, with the overall intention of deception.
