Diagnosis of schizophrenia
Must have at least 2 of the following for 1 month, with continuous 6 month period affecting function.
At least one must be positive
- Auditory hallucination
- Thought disorder
- Other hallucinations
- Catatonia
- Negative symptoms

Flattening of affect/ blunting
Attention deficit.
Management of schizophrenia
- Atypical antipsychotic
- Risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole - Olanzapine
Consider typical if atypical do not work
Steps for starting antipsychotic medication
- Atypical antipsychotic at an effective doser
- Olanzapine, risperidone, quetiapine - Low potency first-generation antipsychotic
- Chlorpromazine
- Increase dose to reach clinical effect
