Describe the process of CBT

A

CBT involves direct questioning where the patients beliefs are treated as a hypothesis and are examined for validity. This works as the patient realises their hallucinations aren’t real. CBT is a long-term treatment using role-play and homework assignments.

Q

What is the diathesis stress model?

Interactionist approach

A

The diathesis stress model assumes the condition is caused from both environmental factors as well as biological and psychological factors.
Therefore for an effective treatment according to an interactionist approach both drug therapy to treat genetic factors and psychological therapy to treat environmental factors are needed.
