What criteria must be met for schizophrenia?
Two or more following symptoms for at least one month duration:
- > positive symptoms (delusions and hallucinations )
- > disorganised speech
- > grossly disorganised/catatonic behaviour
- > Negative symptoms
What are negative symptoms?
Absence/reduction normal behaviours
What are examples of negative symptoms?
Emotional flattening, alogia, avolition
What is the historical term for positive symptoms?
Psychosis
What is likelihood of developing schizophrenia if a first degree relative is schizophrenic?

What is the importance of social factors in schizophrenic development?
Can be influential during course of schizophrenia e.g family factors
