Q

Burning of the bodies

Hand Held Camera of the Jews diggin up graves

What do you remember?

A

The hand held camera places us in the scene and the rapid cutting of shots gives a sense of a lack of control over what’s happening similer to what the Jews are experiencing. This also shows how the germans industrialised killing and how little regard they have for the Jews as te soliders are more worried about the smell than the people.

Q

Burning of the Bodies

Two shot of Schindler sitting across from Stern

What do you remember?

A

Reminds us of how schindler has changed over the course of the film. In Stern accepting a drink from schindler we see how stern (the moral compass of the film) now accepts Schindler as another man who is morally just and whats to do the right thing.

Q

Liqudation of the Ghetto

Extreme long shot (Schindlers Pov of the Ghetto)

What do you remember?

A

Places us in schindlers shoes as we are now exactly like him as we can only watch the atroicties that play out before us. Brings to light how we often view things through a binoculer lens and because we are so far removed from them we don’t tend to worry.

Q

Liqudation of the Ghetto

Extreme long shot (Seven Jewish people being killed)

What do you Remember?

A

Shows the inhumanity of the Germans as they are so easily able to kill seven people without bating an eye. Shows the germans view it as a sort of game as even after 5 have already been killed the officer takes it upon himself to kill the last two himself. Shows the inanate evil of man.

Q

Liqudation of the Ghetto

The Girl in Red

What do you remember?

A

The girl in red serves as a warning sign. Her bright red coat (red being tyipcal for ideas of love blood and warning) is easily spotted and yet none of the soilders around her seem to notice. This is a representation of the allies mindset during WWII as even with the clear sighs of what the germans were doing they couldn’t bear to watch.

Q

Liqudation of the Ghetto

Close up of Girl in Red

What do you remember?

A

The girl in red is a symbol of inocence and her bright red coat symbolies that. So as the coat fades to black in this scene it shows how because of the holocaust this inocence has been lost. Not just to her but for all Jewish people. This colour is also drained as speilberg stated that for him color is the symbol of life. So the red coat turning black is also portayin the jewish loss of life.

Shot of officer playing piano

What do you remember?

A

Some beleive that the only people who could have fallen for hitler and his lies were the lesser educated. This scene shows the oposite. As the Jews are surgically extingiushed a officer plays he piano while two others comment on the pieace he is playing saying. “Mozart?” “Nein Bach” this shows how even those of good educations can befall to inhumanity
