What is Asocial + when
A
Behaviour to people and inanimate objects is the same, no separation or stranger anxiety (first few weeks)

What is indiscriminate + when
A
- Prefers people, do not show stranger or separation anxiety
(2-7 months)

What is specific + when
A
- separation and stranger anxiety when separated from specific person, said to have formed specific attachment with primary caregiver
(From around 7months)

A
- Secondary attachments form shortly after specific attachment (Schaffer and Emerson, 29% had SA after one month of forming PA)

What did Schaffer and Emerson investigate, procedure
A
- 60 babies Glasgow, visited every month for a year - then at 18months
- mothers measured both separation and stranger anxiety of the baby and reported back

Findings of Schaffer and Emerson’s study
A
- Babies had developed in the stages as established before
- Specific attachment was with who was most interactive with the baby no necessarily who spend the most time with
