Mitchs lack of formal manners And education make him an imperfect match for Blanche. But they are able to to connect/ relate on suffering and loneliness. Blanche needs Mitch as a stabilising force in her life
If Blanches relationship fails she will face a world offers few things for financially unstable unmarried women who is approaching middle age

Blanche reveals how she views the world. When she was in love with her husband, the world was full of light, and for her, truth. However, after Allan’s suicide, Blanche has trouble reconciling her husband’s homosexuality and her role in his suicide. Since then she has lived among shadowy illusions, hiding herself from the world.
