Scene 2 Flashcards
Begin Scene
There you are. I made some hot chocolate.
R: Oh thank you! (Taking a sip) I don’t know what your secret recipe is, but you make the best hot chocolate.
Oh it’s not hard. (Leans over to Rebecca) It’s Kroger chocolate milk that I heat up
R: Really? Isn’t that cheating?
Only if you get caught.
R: (Looks around) Well, to tell you the truth, when I’m pressed for time, I’ve used the Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix.
No! You’re kidding?
R: No I’m not, and no one has noticed. Of course I have to hide the incriminating evidence deep in the garbage can.
All of our culinary secrets are coming out today.
R: As long as we’re confessing, let me tell you about my biscuits.
Oh no….I think I’ve heard enough….Where’re the kids?
R: Well after eating half the cookies, they went out with Samuel to look for firewood
He got Olivia to go? I’m impressed. Speaking of the cookies, do I need to look in the trashcan to see if those were homemade or not?
R: (Laughing) No. I made the cookie dough early this morning and had it in the refrigerator ready for them.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen these. (Flips a few pages) Is this Adam?
R: Yeah. I think he was around 4 or 5 then.
What’s he doing with the clock?
R: (Laughing) Oh that. He got tired of waiting for Sesame Street to come on so he had the bright idea to move the clock hands forward so it would start sooner. He got mad when it didn’t work.
Is that Bo?
R: Yeah. Adam loved that dog. He called him his brother. He was one of the quietest and most peaceful dogs I have ever seen. I never met a dog who seemed more content. He would let Adam do anything with him.
He’s huge.
R: We were told he wouldn’t get very big, but as you can see, that was a wrong assumption
What’s Adam holding here?
R: His baptism certificate. He was 10. I’ll never forget the day he gave his life to Jesus
There’s a Christmas tree behind him. Was he baptized at Christmas?
He was. He came forward at Thanksgiving. He said he was thankful for everything that God had done. But he wanted to wait until Christmas to be baptized. He said that was when God gave us the greatest gift ever and so for Christmas he wanted to give God his heart
I remember when we first met. He asked me if I knew God. And I knew then he was the one God had set aside for me. Everything Adam said and did was for His glory.
R: That’s my Adam.
I’m tired Rachel. I feel like I’m losing control. I’m trying to make this a good Christmas for the kids but everything we do, everywhere we look, was where Adam was. Today’s Christmas Eve. He’s always read the story of Christmas to them. Do you, do you think Samuel would do that?
