Scene 2 Flashcards
Bob: The star of Bethlehem is bright, not blinding.
Good! Everyone is here. I have a special announcement about our pageant for this Christmas season.
Faith: It is totally exciting.
Louise: You’re all going to love it.
Linda (to louise): What is it, mom?
Louise: I’m not really sure, but you’re going to love it.
We are not doing the usual Christmas story, but instead we are going to investigate the deep religious meaning of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. Each day of Christmas really does represent something in the life of Jesus.
Lily: So we are just going to talk about the song?
Oh, heavens, no! We are going to act out each of the Twelve Days of Christmas.
Lisa: Really? But isn’t there a lot of wildlife in The Twelve Days of Christmas?
Mr. Haney: Not much wildlife, but there is a lot of poultry.
Holly: Poultry? What’s poultry?
Faith: Birds. You know. Chickens and things.
Sue: That’s funny. I don’t remember any chickens in that song…
Not chickens…but there are French Hens.
Trudy: Right. We only have billingual chickens in the 12 days of christmas.
Beth: And turtle doves, a partridge, seven swans a swimming, six geese a laying and four calling birds.
Sue: Who are they calling?
Nicki: They’re probably calling the Congregation of Joy and Love to ask if they can be in a real christmas play.
I’m not saying it’s going to be easy. It is going to take an amazing amount of work and dedication. Mr. Haney has volunteered to handle all the livestock. So we all must rise to the occasion. It calls for all the we are– the very best that we are. Are you ready to give your best to make this year’s pageant one to remember?
All (weakly): Yes.
Al: Aren’t there also ladies and lords and drummers?
Will: We could so be drummers. Years of Christmas pageants and we finally get to be rock stars!
You two can be Mr. Haney’s assistants.
Mr. Haney: There will be some clean up…
Louise: Maybe we should sing the song… (3 verses of the song)
It is a rather long song, isn’t it?
Ruth: It’s going to call for lots of extra man hours.
Faith: Or woman hours, but we can do it.
You are so right! ladies, we are going to start planning. Mr. Haney, come with us and we can get our livestock roster together.
Bridget: What are we supposed to do? These are the auditions?
You can…well…
Harriet: It’s a church. When all else fails, you do what church people do!
Louise: Pray?
Lisa: Form a committee?
Eat! Louise, cookies! ….Now on to the planning of what will be the most memorable Christmas Play in the history of Christmas plays.
