Scatter Diagrams Flashcards
What are the different types of correlation?
No correlation, Weak Positive Correlation, Strong Negative Correlation, Linear Positive Correlation, and Quadratic Correlation
What are scatter diagrams useful for?
to visualize patterns in data
What do you use correlation coefficient for?
to calculate if the correlation is significant
Why does correlation not mean causation (because of a link to something else)?
trend could be caused by another factor
e.g. a increase in sales in a ice cream van on a beach is not because of shark attacks but because of weather or a different factor
What do you write on the x axis?
independent variable
is controlled by investigator, and causes change in dependent variable
What do you write on the y axis?
dependent variable
depends on or affected by the independent variable
