Scapular and Deltoid Regions Flashcards

1
Q

Deltoid

A

Proximal Attachment:

-lateral 1/3 of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula

Distal Attachment: -deltoid tuberosity of humerus

Actions: -flexes, medially rotates, abducts, extends, and laterally rotates humerus

Innervation: -axillary nerve (C5, C6)

Blood supply: deltoid branch of thoracoacromial arterial trunk

Teres major

A

Proximal Attachment:

-posterior surface of inferior angle of scapula

Distal Attachment:

  • medial lip of intertubercular (bicipital) groove of humerus Actions:
  • adducts and medially rotates humerus

Innervation: -lower subscapular nerve (C5, C6)

Q

Serratus anterior

A

Proximal Attachment:

-external surfaces of lateral parts of ribs 1-9

Distal Attachment:

-anterior surface of medial border of scapula

Actions:

-protracts scapula and holds it against thoracic wall; rotates scapula

Innervation: -long thoracic nerve (C5, C6, C7) (“raise your arms to heaven”)

Blood supply: lateral thoracic artery

Q

Supraspinatus

A

Proximal Attachment:

-supraspinous fossa of scapula

Distal Attachment:

-superior facet of greater tubercle of humerus

Actions:

-works with deltoid in abduction of humerus, acts with other rotator cuff muscles in stabilizing shoulder joint

Innervation:

-suprascapular nerve (C4, C5, C6)

Blood supply: suprascapular artery

Subscapularis

A

Proximal Attachment:

-subscapular fossa (anterior surface of scapula

Distal Attachment:

-lesser tubercle of humerus

Actions:

-medially rotates and adducts humerus helps hold humeral head in place

Innervation: -upper & lower subscapular nerves anterior/costal (C5, C6, C7)

Blood supply: subscapular artery
