Q
  1. Describe yourself.
A

I expect greatness from myself and those around me. I believe if you are going to do something you should do it well and to the best of your abilities. I try to be transparent and honest with people, treat them like a human being. I try to limit speaking ill of others or speaking on any subject if I don’t have all the facts. I would rather tell someone I don’t know the answer to something and that I will find out than pretend I do and give a false response.

Q
  1. Why should we hire you?
A

If you hire me you will be getting someone who has the potential to make a large positive impact on the organization in many ways, not just someone who will get the job done.

  • I have done many of the essential job functions of this position
  • I worked closely with the last project leader and have the most experience in this specific area
  • It is a natural progression for me and my current position
  • Currently, Robert Rosenstiel and I have been working with Mike to develop the local cost multiplier, trend analysis, and depreciation analysis
  • I have strong communication skills and a good rapport with the RES staff. People value and respect my opinion and seek me out for council.
  • As far as 2 years back I was offered a supervisory position with another county, and have since been offered several more and even more offers to interview, including for county appraiser/city assessor positions. I have chosen to stay with Sedgwick County and am hopeful that now that there is an opportunity I will be able to advance my career here without having to move.

19
Q
  1. Are you a leader or a follower?

A

21
Q

22
Q
  1. How would you fire someone?
A

If we are at that point I have already given sufficient warnings and attempted to coach and educate them on how to fix the issues, so it should not be a big surprise. I would do it earlier in the week. Consult HR and legal and make sure all the necessary paperwork is complete and steps have been taken to ensure no legal issues. Once everything is ready bring them in and let them know why they are being let go. Be short and to the point. Probably have someone remove their access and security while they are with me to avoid any issues after the fact.
