- Team based care would contribute
- strategy employment (IPASS, SBAR, others)
LO4: describe barriers to effective communication and strategies to overcome them.
- can be challenge for shy students
- students dont wanna look dumb in front of peers/faculty (may have apprehension)–> work through it together to develop this and get confidence up
- power struggle in perceived “Pecking order”–> most of time ppl up the ladder will be understanding that you will try to grow and remember time when they were where you are lol
- interruptive group members–> “who’s got the ball?”=maybe use a notebook or object to show who will talk at the time, ask permission to pass it to them
What is SBAR? (part of LO5 kind of)
reporting format for documentation, originally developed for military and now utilized by many health care organizations to reduce medical errors in transition
-utilized by many organizations (JHACO, institute for healthcare improvement)
What is transitions of care refer to?
movement of pts bw health care practitioners, settings, and home as conditions and care needs change.

teaches succinct reporting, encourages students to focus on pertinent parts of case, gives students experience in developing essential skills for clinical clerkships and residency; minimizes distractions to group focus
