Shows that the mother provides stability for the son but could also show her holding him back
It could also show the son exploring his new found independence and is growing and a person and is also maturing

Shows the son exploring his independence and leaving his mum

Shows that the son will be in foreign space and he will find it difficult

Shows that his mum is desperately holding on but in doing so could hurt his mum

Shows the new found freedom he is experiencing

Shows that the son my fail or could be successful once he is independent

Shows that she has been with him since the beginning and will always be there for him if needed
