Company Commanders…
–designate areas on the apparatus floor, where members shall safely don PPC
OFFICER conducts apparatus inspection with CHAUFFEUR ..
–IMMEDIATELY after apparatus inspection , consult with chauffeur about modifications to response routes , speed, weather , dangerous area, etc.
- ROLL CALL is time to handle any problems that arise that would delay or cause unsafe response
- CC ensure route cards are maintained
- housewatch blackboard should be used for street closings, route changes, etc.
All members, except, OFFICER, CHAUFFEUR and TILLER, should board apparatus outside quarters..
–OFFICER determine when apparatus is ready to proceed
-officer shall ensure apparatus door is fully opened and check for presence of Tiller FF
Officer check right side of apparatus , thus chauffeur can give full attention to left side
Chauffeurs consider each traffic lane, a SEPARATE INTERSECTION..
–don’t cross intersection until right of way is give, by other drivers
-ALMOST ALL intersection accidents are preventable
Responding from outside activities…2 most dangerous situations:
- members hurrying to apparatus
2. unusual response patterns, other units responding to same alarm
School bus…
STOP when:
- bus is stopped with RED LIGHTS FLASHING or visual stop sign
- when children are being loaded or discharged from the bus
- approaching a stopped bus from any direction
- *remain stopped until
1. bus resumes motion
2. POLICE OFFICER SIGNALS
3. BUS DRIVER SIGNALS
