South of Jura close to the Swiss border, mecca for ski and other winter sports, many within sight of the French Alps; vineyards located on lower foothills with altitude less than 1500 ft
How are vines trained?
On single stake when vineyards are very steep, more modern methods on less steep vineyards
What is the climate of the Savoie?
Weather can be unpredictable, mountains exert important influence; long periods of rain common in summer, weather close to harvest often sunny and dry saving vintage; temperatures at lower end of grape growing range, sunshine hours are good; daytime temps in summer can be high, cool nights create healthy diurnal temp swings; Alpine climate with short, cool growing season bookended by frost
