What are the behavioural differences between pygmy and common chimps?
Pygmy chimps use more eye contact, gestures and vocalisations.
In the study which types of monkeys were studied?
Pygmy chimpanzees and common chimpanzees.
What does language mean?
A small number of signals (sounds, letters, gestures) that by themselves are meaningless but can be out together according to certain rules to make an infinite number of messages.
What does communication mean?
The way in which one animal or person transmits information to another and influences them.
What is associative naming?
The ability to link or associate certain symbols (e.g. sounds or signs) with specific objects e.g. naming a toy or picture in a book. A soft toy is called “Teddy”.
What is referential naming?
The ability to use these symbols to refer to these objects or activities e.g. being able to respond to the request, “get your ball” even if the ball is in another room.
