Sartre’s Terms And Definitions Flashcards
The For-itself (Le Pour-Soi)
The means by which we are conscious of ourselves as objects, not in-itself.
What confers meaning (for).
The In-itself (L’En-Soi)
Possible to reference the in-itself, but not to grasp it, experience it, in-itself.
Being
Huh!
Nothingness
Mmmmm
Pre-reflective consciousness
Oh boy!
Reflective consciousness
Oh boy boy!
“Existant”
Reality/Existence, that precedes perception/POV.
“Transcendance”
Surpassing the being-in-itself (l’en-soi), the existant, into a being-for-itself (?), a meaning.
(e.g, inert matter is an existant, transcendance leads to its essence, its meaning, as being a paper-weight)
Pre-Reflective Cogito (PRC)
“I am, I exist.” (?)
The certainty of existence precedes reflection.
Phenomenon of Being
Totalizer (?)
What is the reality of the object?
That it is there, and not me. (La tasse).
What is Internal Negation, and why do we use it?
Holy moly
Objectification
The being of the phenomenon
What am I?
I am a being that grasps itself as existing.
