What is the mode of action of Sartans?
A
> competitively block binding of angiotensin II to type 1 angiotensin (AT1) receptors > reduce angiotensin-induced: - vasoconstriction - sodium reabsorption - aldosterone release

What are the indications of Sartans?
A
- HTN
- HF in patients unable to tolerate ACEI

What are the AEs of Sartans?
A
Common
- dizziness
- headache
- hyperkalaemia
Infrequent
- first dose hypotension
- abnormal liver function
- muscle cramp, myalgia
- renal impairment
Rare
- cough
- angioedema

What are the counseling points of Sartans?
A
- you may feel dizzy when you start taking this medicine. Get up gradually from sitting or lying to minimise this effect; sit or lie down if you become dizzy or light-headed
- don’t take potassium supplements while you are taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you to
