SAQ Flashcards
Define Haemostasis
Haemostasis is the stoppage of bleeding
Name and explain the phases of Haemostasis
- Vascular phase: vasoconstriction to limit amount of blood loss
- Formation of platelet plug via platelet activation
- Intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation pathway. both end with liquid blood turning into a solid via conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin
- Anticlotting mechanism are activated to remove the clot and allow healing of the blood vessel
Describe and explain the factors that allow Haemostasis to work efficiently.
- Integrity of the vessel
- Adequate number of platelets
- Proper functioning of the coagulation cascade
- Proper functioning of the platelets
- Adequate levels of clotting factors
Describe the. ideal properties of denture polymers
- Resilent
- Tough
- High impact strength
- Dimensional stability
- Repairable if breaks 6. Good thermal conductor 6. Radiopaque
- Cheap
Describe the ISO requirements for denture base polymers.
- Bond to denture tooth
- Biocompatible
- High polish
- Translucent
- Colour/ colour stability
- No porosity
- Low residual monomer
- Flexural strength >= 65 9. MPa Flexural modulus >= 2 GPa
Explain the setting reaction of PMMA (Poly Methyl Methacrylate).
- Chemcially cured by Tertiary amine (accelerator), Benzoyl peroxide (initiator) and Hydroquinone (inhibitor)
- Light activated using blue light
- Heat and pressure controlled
Give soem indications for a resin retained bridge
- Single tooth space
- Motivated patient
- Suitable abutment tooth
- Good periodontal health
- Plenty of enamel to bond to
- Well positioned
- Occlusion is favourable (the pontic won’t be in guidance)
- Young patient
Give soem contra indications for a resin retained bridge
- Patient not motivated
- Poor oral hygiene
- Poor access
- Inadequate enamel area
- Uncontrolled caries
- Severe bone bone or soft tissue
- Unfavoruabel occlusion
- Inadequate periodontal support
ist the information needed to complete a lab prescription for manufacture of a study model.
- Patient name
- Complete design go denture/ crown
- Shape and shade
- Date of apppoiintemtn
- Date of miner appointment
- Disinfected
Explain how the study model is articulated when the patient’s dentition includes teeth that do not come together upon biting.
1, Opposing arch alginate impressions required
2. Blu mousse
