Caillottes (chalky stone) covers 50% of the region. Produces light, bright Sancerres. Not profound, but vibrant and perky.

The less clay, the more mineral. More clay, more fleshiness.

Gunpowder/Flint. May be related to winemaking techniques.

They impart a unique stamp on a wine wherever it is. (Chablis, Champagne). Offered robustness of clay and mineral of limestone. MUSHROOMY NOTE IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR KIM-MARLS
What is the texture of wines made on limestone?
Bony, straight, piercing (Limestone excludes fleshiness)
Describe wines made from Silex.
More flesh and roundness than wines from limestone. Smoky characteristic. Rounder texture than limestone, not as linear. “Flavors go to stone fruits and florals.”
What are wines from Kimmeridgian marls like?
Taut minerality with fleshy roundness. Whereas silex provides both sensations as well, they feel more interwoven with kimmeridgian marls.
