simple random sample
A
random number generator, each member of the population has an equal chance of being picked. unbiased.

cluster sample
A
the population is divided into groups (clusters) some of the groups are selected randomly and each member of the cluster is sampled.

stratified sample
A
the population is split into groups of the same characteristics (strata) the number of members selected is proportional to the size. members selected using a simple random sample.

quota
A
the population is split into strata (as in stratified). a desired number of members to be selected from each strata is decided upon. the interviewer conducts the survey enough times until the desired quotas have been reached.
