Sampling+Ethics+questionaires+interviews Flashcards
What is Snowball Sampling?
-Where one contact will recruit other contacts to get involved in the research
-Not representative
-Specific groups needed where they are difficult(E.g. Drug dealers)
What is volunteer sampling?
When a sample is gathered through participants putting themselves forward to be studied .Respondants are found through advertising in a paper/shop window/internet etc
-Anyone with free time needed
What is Opportunity sampling?
-Where the researcher uses a sample of people who are available at the time.
-Anyone convenient
What is Purposive sampling?
-Where the researcher has a clear idea of the sample they want , they will pick participants that meet their criteria
-When individuals need to fit the nature of the research
What is random sampling?
-Every member lit the target population has an equal chance of being selected for the sample
-A larger sample
-Sampling Frame = list of names
What is systematic sampling?
-Every “nth” member of the target population is selected for the Danone
What is stratified sampling?
-Different subgroups in the target population are identified;then people are randomly selected from these subgroups in the proportion to their numbers in the target population
What is Quota sampling?
-The researcher has a clear number of people they need to include in their sample based on certain characteristics
What is a pilot study?
-A practice run for the main research involving a sub sample
-Act as a early warning system for problems that can arise
