Sampling Flashcards
Types of Sampling
Random, Stratified, Systematic, Cluster, Multistage and Quota
Random Sampling
Items are picked at random until sample is complete
Stratified Sampling
Sampling frame is divided into non-overlapping groups or strata (area, age, gender). A random sample is taken from each strata
Systematic Sampling
Every nth item in the sampling frame is taken for the sample
Cluster Sampling
Divides population into groups, number of clusters are selected randomly to represent the population then all units within the selected clusters are included in the sample.
Multistage Sampling
Involving selecting a sample within each chosen cluster rather than including all units in the cluster. Thus multistage sampling involves selecting a sample in at least two stages
Quota Sampling
Separating a population into sub-group, individuals are then chosen by the interviewer rather than selected at random or systematically
