Opportunity sampling
using the people around you e.g. asking people walking past you in the street
Volunteer sampling
e.g. advertise in a newspaper
Random sampling
each member of the population has a random chance of being selected e.g. the lottery, drawing names or numbers out of a hat
Stratified sampling
Subgroups (strata) identified e.g. boys or girls, a certain age range)
P’s obtained from each group in proportion to occurrence in population
e.g. if have 100 boys and 90 girls in a population, might have 10 boys and 9 girls in sample

Systematic sampling
Use predetermined system to select p’s e.g. every 6th, 14th etc person from a phone book
