Sampling Flashcards
Simple Random
Everyone in the population has an equal chance to be chosen
Voluntary
People chosen themselves to be elected by responding to general appeal
Stratified
Divide the target pop. into subcategories and select people in the proportion that they occur
Opportunity
Selecting people that are available at the time
Coverage Error
People who don’t belong in study are mistakenly included
Statistical Inference
Forming judgement on a population based on a small group of people (simple random sampling)
Parameter
Number that describes the pop.
Statistic
Number that describes a sample
Sample Variability
Variation in the rank of a statistic in repeated random sampling
Sampling Distribution
Distribution of values taken by statistic in all possible samples of the same size from the same pop.
Variability of a Statistic
Spread of sampling distribution
Bias
Where the centre of the sampling distribution bell curve lies
