Samplimg Flashcards
What is sampling
The process of deciding how to select the people you want to question in relation to your market research
What are the 3 types of sampling
Random
Quota
Target
What is random sampling
A method of sampling in which people are randomly selected or questioned - every person in the population has a equal chance of being asked
Advantages of random sampling
Personal opinions are given
Everyone has equal chance of being chosen
Disadvantages of random sampling
Results aren’t very accurate unless a very large sample is used
Most expensive type of sampling
Unsuitable for some products eg: Coca Cola - where do you go to question people
What is Quota sampling
Where interviews are held with a set number of people who fall into predetermined categories
Advantages of quota sampling
More accurate then random sampling
More likely to reach the appropriate people
Considerably cheaper then random sampling
Disadvantages to quota sampling
Breakdown of the population must be known in order for the correct proportions to be interviewed- difficult to find sometimes
Unsuitable for certain products
What is target sampling
Where people from one particular market segment are questioned
Advantages of target sampling
More accurate
More likely to reach the appropriate people, therefore saves time and money
Disadvantages of target sampling
May be a small sample so not a representative sample, so therefore can’t take the results of the sample to be true to everyone
