Sample Questions Flashcards
What documents are required to be on-board every flight?
A - Certificate of Airworthiness R - Certificate of Registration O - P.O.H. W - Weight & Balance J - Journey Log I - Proof of Insurance L - Crew Licenses I - Intercept Orders
How long is the C of A valid?
The C of A is valid indefinitely as long as the aircraft is maintained in accordance with the requirements of the controlling agency.
What Invalidates the C of A?
- Failing to comply with AD’s (Airworthiness Directives)
- An action that contradicts the P.O.H. (ex. if weight and balance is not within range, the aircraft loses it’s C of A.
- Any major or minor accident
- Any unscheduled maintenance “snags” in the journey log.
What type of inspection schedule is the aircraft on?
Found in the journey log (or asking an AME), aircraft is on ___ per WWFC.
Using the journey log, prove the aircraft is airworthy.
- Check the last entry current air time against the next inspection air time
- Check to see if the compass was swung in the last year
- Check to see if the ELT was certified within the last year
- Check to insure there are no “snags” in the remarks section of the journey log
- (Write down page numbers ??)
If a defect or “snag” is recorded in the journey log, is the aircraft airworthy?
If a defect or snag exists in the journey log, it is not air worthy unless an AME has signed it off.
Which document lists the owner and purpose of the aircraft?
In the Certificate of Registration; purpose can be private or commercial.
Do amateur-built aircraft need a C of A?
They do not need to have a C of A, they will have a flight permit issued to them.
How long is the Certificate of Registration valid?
The C of R remains valid as long as the ownership does not change, or the owners address does not change. The Reg. number remains the same.
What invalidates the C of R?
The C of R becomes invalid if the ownership changes or the owners address changes.
How long does the owner have to complete the address change information on the back of the Certificate of Registration?
They have 7 days to mail it in.
What is the procedure with respect to the C of R when switching ownership (aircraft sold)?
Back of C of R must be filled out and mailed to TC within 7 days. The white copy goes to TC and the pink copy is valid for —
What does a radio license allow for?
Allows the aircraft to act as a radio station, transmitting on the FM wavelength; also allows the holder to legally operate the radio, which is also valid for life.
What does the P.O.H. stand for? Why is it important to carry it on-board the aircraft?
Pilot Operating Handbook, has all the pertinent information the the aircraft make and model. It allows for the pilot to research any information that might be needed while you are in the aircraft.
How does the Weight and Balance info in the P.O.H. and the weight and balance reports for particular aircraft differ?
Each aircraft has their own W & B section for their specific make and model when it is released by the factory. Due to manufacturing techniques, each aircraft does not weigh exactly the same. Also, each aircraft has optional equipment.
Define Basic Empty Weight.
- Weight of standard airplane
- Full Oil
- Unusable Fuel
- Optional equipment
Define take-off weight.
Maximum weight approved for start of take-off run.
Show me the actual BEW and gross weight for the flight test aircraft.
Check the weight and Balance report for the test aircraft, make sure it is the latest amendment.
Does the Weight and Balance have to be on-board every flight?
Yes.
What is the difference between the normal and utility category?
The utility category is solely for the purpose concerning pilots in certain flight maneuvers.
In the normal category, maximum gross weight operations are permitted but spins and steep turns are prohibited (see P.O.H.).
How will a forward C of G affect the aircraft?
- Apply more than usual back pressure at rotation
- Apply more than usual back pressure for landing; chance of wheelbarrowing and even prop strike.
How will an aft C of G affect the aircraft?
- Apply less than usual back pressure on take-off
- Apply less than usual pack pressure on landing
- Chance of tail strike
- Dangerous stall characteristics, dangerous spin characteristics
