Q

State the process of making a soluble salt

A
  1. Add insoluble reactant to the acid in beaker, stir to mix, keep adding until in excess so all acid has reacted
  2. Filter the solution so only the salt and water remain
  3. Heat solution over a water bath, and stop when crystals form around the edges, this is when the solution is saturated
  4. Leave the solution at room temp for 2 days, so there’s time for large crystals to form
  5. Dry crystals by dabbing with paper

Q

State the process of making a soluble salt from an insoluble oxide

A
  1. Add insoluble reactant to the acid in beaker, stir to mix, keep adding until in excess so all acid has reacted
  2. Filter the solution so only the salt and water remain
  3. Pour filtrate into a evaporating basin, place on a water bath and heat until about half of the water has evaporated, stop heating when small crystals start forming around the edges
  4. Pour remaniant solution into a watch glass and leave in a warm/dry area for crystallisation to occur
  5. Dry crystals by dabbing with paper
