Salt Analysis Flashcards
To byheart salt analysis procedure
State the aim of the experiment
To identify the anion and cation present in the given salt systematically
If color of sample is blue, which ion is present
Cu2+ ions
If the color of sample is green, which ion is present
Cu2+ or Ni2+
I color of salt is brown, what is the ion
Fe3+ or Mn(NO3)2
Light pink sample then what ion
Mn2+ ion
How to perform flame test
A thick paste of the sample is prepared using con.HCL and is shown to the non luminous part of the bunsen flam using a glass rod.
If livid blue flame, what ion
Pb2+
If green edged blue flam, what ion
Cu2+
If Crimson flame, what ion
Sr2+
If pale green flame, what ion
Ba2+
If brick red flame, what ion
Ca2+
What is the test for CO3- ion
(observation as well)
Solid sample is treated with dil.HCl.
observation- Colorless gas evolved with brisk effervesence.
What is the test for Cl- ion
(observation as well)
Solid sample is treated with con.h2so4
observation- WHite fuming pungent smelling gas which produced dense white fumes when NH4OH is shown the mouth of the test tube.
What is the test for NO3- (observation as well)
Solid sample + con.h2so4 and heated with copper turnings.
observation- reddish brown gas evolved
What is the test for SO4- (observation as well)
Sample solution +dil.HCl followed by Bacl2.
observation- White precipitate of BaSO4 insoluble in con.HCl.
