Salt Analysis Flashcards
The flame test of Lithium gives?
A red flame
The flame test of Sodium gives?
A yellow flame
The flame test of Potassium gives?
Lilac flame
The flame test of Copper(II) ions gives?
Blue green flame
How to test if a solution is hydrated?
Gently heat it,droplets of colourless liquid will form at the top of the test tube
Checking if Cobalt(II)chloride is hydrous?
When heated it will give off gas that turns blue litmus paper to pink
Checking if Cobalt(II)chloride is anhydrous?
When heated the gas given off will turn pink litmus to blue
To test if a salt is a nitrate?
Procedure:
Add Sodium-hydroxide(NaOH) and Aluminium foil/powder.
To test if a salt is a nitrate?
Result of Procedure:
Ammonia(NH3) gas should be produced if nitrate. It turns litmus paper blue
To test if a salt is a chloride?
Procedure:
Add nitric acid to destroy any carbonates, then add silver nitrate solution
To test if a salt is a chloride?
Procedure’s result:
White silver chloride precipitate should form
To test if a salt is a bromide?
Procedure:
Add nitric acid to destroy any carbonates ,then add silver nitrate solution
To test if a salt is a bromide?
Procedure’s result:
Cream silver-bromide precipitates form
To test if a salt is a Sulfide?
Procedure:
Add hydrochloric Acid, a gas will be produced test the gas
To test if a salt is a Sulfide?
Procedure’s result:
The gas will turn acidified Potassium Manganate from purple to colourless
